Thanksgiving & Christmas Traditions

THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS? WHAT ARE YOURS?
Traditions are little rituals passed down from generation to generation that helps shape your family by creating a sense of unity, warmth, and closeness!
Thanksgiving Traditions:
1) Place 5 candies in each dinner plate. For every piece of candy, have each person say one thing they are thankful for.
2) Watching the Annual Football Game. Pick teams and cheer each other on.
3) Watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade! Santa always comes at the end and you and your kids can watch for him!
4) Make a wish on the wishbone. This tradition dates back to 332 B.C.
5) Designate a tablecloth for the family to record gratitude's on and have them sign and date it. This can be used each year! Add to the memories and pass it down as an heirloom!
For a Thanksgiving Craft email the counselors and we will get it to you!
Christmas Traditions:
1) Read the Christmas Story from the Bible on Christmas Eve.
2) Collect or make one ornament each year for your children.
3) Have the children make homemade gifts for one another or for other family members.
4) Take a picture each year of each child and hang it on the tree. Picture frame ornaments can be handmade with a few scraps of cardboard and fabric. Be sure to date the pictures and frames!
5) Bake cookies with children. Even small children can roll dough and cut Christmas Cookies!
6) Spend time listening/singing Christmas Carols!!!
For a Christmas Craft email the counselors and we will get it to you!!!
We hope you have good Holidays and enjoy them with your children. If you would like more information on rituals or traditions that you can start with your family please feel free to contact your counselor.

Proclomation Signed!!

On August 7 Judge Executive Lawrence Kuhl signed a Breastfeeding Proclomation! He declared August 2009 as Breastfeeding Awareness Month and puts special emphasis on breastfeeding promotion and urges all citizens to join him in seeking reliable nutrition information and supporting breastfeeding as a high priority for healthier babies in our county.

:)

Breastfeeding Awareness Month

The month of August has been decidated as Breastfeeding Awareness Month with the theme of A Vital Emergency Response.

Emergencies come in many forms: tornado, hurricane, domestic violence, thunder storm, flood, terrorism, earthquake, dam leakage, ice storm, gas leak, chemical spills, fire, landslide, etc.

During these times, running water and electricity may not be working properly and road conditions may be bad. If a mother is breastfeeding, she does not have to worry about sterilizing bottles, formula shortages, lack of water to mix formula, etc.

June Meeting

ITS SUMMER!!!! Happy Father's Day!!! Today at our meeting we made Father's Day cards. They are so adorable. We enjoyed snacks and drinks and a new little friend Sean. We also discussed tanning and how we should protect ourselves and our babies from the sun. Just some pointers for you moms who couldn't make it:
1) Tanning Beds are a big NO-NO for pregnant moms
2) When pregnant use Sunscreen with at least and SPF of 15. Skin is more sensitive when prego.
3) Drink lots of Water!!! Keep yourself hydrated!!!
4) Sit in the shade if you feel Overheated!
5) If nursing, Chlorinated pools are fine for baby...if still concerned wash breast before nursing.
6) Insect repellent can be used on pregnant and nursing moms with no reported adverse events. Do not spray on face as may get into eyes.
7) Applying sunscreen, be careful when applying it to the breast-make sure baby doesn't get any in his mouth!
For more great tips, e-mail us. Have a great summer and be careful in the sun!!! Don't forget our next meeting on July 14th at 11am. Also Baby Fest is coming up so hope to see you all soon!!!!
